Tonight I did something that I´ve been very scared to do and haven´t done on my own once since moving here. I called and ordered a pizza! All by myself!
Pedro is working late tonight and I´m really not in the mood to cook anything, so of course my go-to "meal" is always either pollo a la brasa or pizza. I can walk to the chicken restaurant, but I don´t like to go out alone when it´s dark, so that left me with pizza. I knew what I wanted, and I knew the place only needed our phone number since we were already in their system, but I was so afraid they would say something or ask me something that I wouldn´t understand and then I´d be stuck. Also, I was confused about which place to call. There´s one listed in La Molina, but sometimes it means it is at the other end of La Molina, and then Camacho is closer. Of course, I chose wrong. But that´s okay--it was a good learning experience.
After the woman in La Molina answered and gave a very long, very fast speech, she asked for my number. Then she asked for my name, and then my address. At that point I was sure it wasn´t the right place. Luckily, she figured it out too and told me to call Camacho. Second call--again, the guy who answered gave a very long, slightly slower shpeal and then asked for my number. After giving it, he said "Pedro Alvarado?" and then I knew I was home free! However, after giving what I thought was a simple order, I heard him say, "So only those two pizzas?" Two pizzas?!?! No, no, no, "Solo una pizza!" After a quick confirmation, we had everything straightened out. He asked me how I was paying, in what denomination, and then said that it would be here in less than 30 minutes. I did it!
