We were woken up at 8 am by an earthquake. We first hear the windows in our bedroom shaking and then we feel the ground moving. This is becoming a regular occurence now and doesn´t really phase us too much anymore, but it definitely wakes you up. Usually we just lay in bed and wait it out--they don´t last too long.
This morning was not too strong, but really long. After the shaking stopped, we got out of bed and Pedro said, "Call the NVC." We call the NVC (National Visa Center) about 3 times every day to see if our case has changed. The last change occurred on Monday, June 2nd when they entered our final papers into their system. We have been waiting for them to review our papers and complete our case. This can take any amount of time, from a day to weeks, but typically it takes about one week. I didn´t think it would have changed, but I called anyway because I didn´t call last night before going to bed, and it said, "Your case was completed on June 6th!" YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!
On Monday we can call and speak with an operator to find out the exact date of our interview. We are guessing that based on our completion date, our interview will be at the end of July. Phew! We´re so happy and I´m so relieved that this is almost over!
(**One funny side-note: Before we send our papers, we always go over them almost 10 times making sure we filled in every question, wrote clearly, included all the necessary papers, because if there´s just one mistake it might set back our case weeks. Pedro usually takes our papers to FedEx, which is a ways away from our house. This last time, we decided to look into DHL first, because it was closer and their website said they had next-day delivery. When Pedro was at the DHL location he picked up some flyers, but then discovered that DHL was going to be the same time and more money than FedEx, so he sent the papers with FedEx anyway. When I got home from work that day Pedro told me that he sent the papers, but he remembered that he accidentally put the DHL flyers inside the envelope as well. He was worried this whole time that our papers wouldn´t get completed because of those flyers! Now he can relax.)
